Melrose War Memorial

The monument erected by public subscription commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.  A metal plaque was installed in front of the monument in 2006 with photographs and details of those who died.

After the subject had lain dormant for some time, about six weeks ago the question was revived at a public meeting held at the Melrose Institute. Cr. T. W. Willington was appointed chairman and Mr. R. S. Kennedy secretary. After discussion on various suggestions placed before the meeting it was resolved that a plain stone obelisk be erected on one of the hills at the rear of the town and that a marble honor roll be placed in front of the Institute Hall.
